Better than the Easter Bunny

I never truly understood Easter. Like, I got the cute bunny and Easter egg part. I was more happy about chocolate, or in my case, white chocolate more than I understood what the actual meaning of this Holiday is. Easter has become one of my favorites, if not favorite Holiday to celebrate. It’s not because there are any special gifts, food or even a special tradition of sorts. Easter is my favorite holiday because of so much more.

Easter is the reason we are here. I know, I know, you’re saying, “Jesus was born on Christmas.” No, I am not dumb. But, because Jesus rose from the tomb, we are here: worry free, guilt free and blameless. We celebrate an empty tomb, but have you ever really thought about it? Like, that thousand pound rock couldn’t have just moved. Only by the power of God did Jesus rise from the dead and walk out of the tomb. Many were in disbelief. Sometimes, even we can fall into disbelief that God is, in fact, that powerful.

When we really think about it, he’s better than any superhero. He is our super hero. God sent His son for us to die in the worst way possible, but so we could live in the best way possible.  By giving us his son at Christmas (John 3:16) and Him walking a sinless life and dying for us, God gives us the gift of a more abundant life than we could ever imagine (1 John 3:20).

This Easter, there is so much to be thankful for. The empty tomb symbolizes so much. It symbolizes our own death and resurrection in Jesus. We get to walk freely and out of our tombs daily because Jesus died on a cross for us. We get to abundantly enjoy family, friends and every day joys all while having joy in the One who created us. It’s easy to get wrapped up in our own faults and failures. I do it at least once a day. But, deep down, knowing that Jesus’ sacrifice covers all of our past; present and future sins and failures are enough for me to sing His praises this morning. (Psalm 104:33).
